The Preble County Juvenile Court has jurisdiction over individuals who are under the age of 18 and who are commonly referred to as juveniles. Under Ohio law, Juvenile Court has original and exclusive jurisdiction of certain juvenile cases. This means that the Preble County Juvenile Court must hear the following types of cases and is the only court in Ohio with jurisdiction over these cases in Preble County:
- Dependent Cases
- Custody Cases
- Paternity Cases
- Child Support Cases
- Traffic Cases
- Delinquency/Unruly Cases
- Neglect or Abuse Cases
- Civil Protection Orders
- Truancy Cases
- Probation
- Failure to Send to School (adults)
- Contributing to Delinquency (adults)
The Ohio Revised Code places over two hundred separate duties upon the Probate Court. In all of its duties, the Preble County Probate Court’s mission is to efficiently and effectively fulfill its obligations and responsibilities as established by Ohio law while maintaining the public confidence. While the duties of the court are significant, some of the more common duties of the Court include:

- Appointing and reviewing guardianships/conservatorships of minors and incompetent persons
- Birth registrations and corrections
- Marriage licenses
- Name changes
- Processing of trusts
- Resolving issues of contested wills
- Estates
- Civil actions
- Adult protective services
- Disinterment
- Supervision of testamentary trusts
